Open RPG Maker is a free and open source clone of the RPG Maker series (i.e. rpgmaker2000, rpgmaker2003, rpgmakerxp), as well as many other features. All of the data files are in XML format and are easily editable with any text editor (see File Formats in the editing section).

Open RPG Maker was created in the hopes that people would be able to easily create 2D RPG games, similar to the original ones available on the NES and SNES, without any programming knowledge. Also Open RPG maker was designed to be open source so that those with programming knowledge may modify the engine or editor to their liking, which makes Open RPG Maker that much more flexible.

Unfortunately, unlike most open source projects, Open RPG Maker is not open for other people to help in the development of the project. This is because Open RPG Maker is ment to be a major challenge for Tuxinator's continual development of programming skills. However if you create a tileset or other media object (Music, Sound Effect, Image, etc.) that you wish to be distributed with Open RPG Maker, then please visit the Helping hand page.
